Scrissi questo pezzo thrash nel 2016 parlando della situazione mondiale (soprattutto quella occidentale) in anni recenti. Ho modificato il testo nel 2020, aggiungendo la pandemia COVID-19 alla già enorme lista di problemi, ma il pezzo parla soprattutto delle tensioni esistenti tra le diverse superpotenze mondiali, la recessione economica degli anni '10, gli attacchi terroristici che abbiamo ricevuto dal terzo mondo, e soprattutto la nostra PESSIMA risposta a tutti questi problemi: una gigantesca sete di autoritarismo e "uomini forti al comando" è riemersa negli ultimi anni; diffidare della modernità e cercare rifugio nei dogmi oppressivi del passato sembra essere tutto ciò di cui siamo capaci, anziché abbracciare e cercare di comprendere la complessità del nostro tempo. Di conseguenza, il populismo farlocco prolifera.
