Curiosità

Questa canzone fu la mia immediata reazione all'attentato al Bataclan, nel 2015: da un lato denunciando lo schifo del terrorismo islamico, ma allo stesso tempo senza cadere nell'isteria cristiano-conservatrice che all'epoca sembrava essere la reazione più comune all'evento (cioè, l'idea fallace di "usare il cristianesimo come metaforico muro contro l'Islam"). Il testo inizia in maniera ingannevole, attaccando l'Islam senza riserve, ma poi rigira quelle stesse accuse contro il cristianesimo e l'ebraismo, mostrando come tutte queste religioni possano essere facilmente usate per fini discutibili, in base alle interpretazioni più "convenienti" dei loro testi sacri. La religione in sé è il vero problema, essendo qualcosa di troppo ambiguo, soggettivo e facile da adattare all'interpretazione che ti conviene di più. Prendi un popolo disperato, dai loro un dio o un profeta per cui combattere, e guardali fare il lavoro sporco per te.

Musicalmente, la canzone suona come un incontro a metà strada tra thrash tedesco stile Sodom e thrash americano stile Bay Area. Un misto che avevo voglia di provare almeno una volta.

Stop denying this fact

"Moderate muslims", don't you realize

Your book is full of shit

Sugar-coated interpretations

Cannot deny this evidence

And you, western christians, don't be too smug

You are guilty of that as well

You think you are modern and civilized

But what about the Old Testament?

Islam, judaism, christianity

Just different faces of the same coin

Religions of peace based on holy books

Which can justify any war

One religion, thousands of sects

Each one a different interpretation

One book, hundreds of theologians

Trying to justify the obsolete

Violence and bloodshed, no one cares

That's all "symbolic", y'know?

This is the "moderate" interpretation

But who said it's the righteous one?

Peaceful christians behaving as if

Only New Testament exists

But when you have to discriminate

Old Testament's always helpful

Abrahamic religions, so multifaceted

To suit any customer's order

Holy books filled with contradictions

Just take the lines you enjoy

The Bible, the Torah and the Quran

Can be legitimately used

To interfere in politics, to kill the infidels

Or to reclaim a whole land

So there you have it, my dear folks

All religion is bad

There is no "good against evil" this time

Traditionalism can't help us

Religious infiltration in public institutions

A threat to freedom and reason

Christianity can't be the answer to Islam

Laicism's the only solution

Terrorists attack us all

In the name of Allah

But that's just the symptom of a greater evil

Which is religion itself
