Trivia

My attempt to blend a relatively "sophisticated" melody with the most minimalistic, caveman-ish, barbaric drumming imaginable.

Lyrically, it deals with the rationalizations and the backward thinking we all delve into, when we're not happy with our lives and our standards for personal satisfaction are way too high - therefore we choose to be content with a "surrogate" of what we originally wanted, and pretend to be OK with it. But "faking it" can only bring you this far: after a while, the mask starts to crack and you start feeling miserable again.

Lyrics

Nothing has intrinsic value

Causality's the only law

So the only thing I value

Are my own immanent instincts

Standard too high to be reached

Object of instinct forbidden

This is how I ended up

In a spiral of denial

SURROGATE (x 4)

Standard too high to be reached

Defense mechanism activated

Lowering of expectation

In a subconscious suppression

Backing up the unreachable

Replacing it the easy way

But it cannot work forever

Our nature can't be tricked

Still below the required level

Standards just cannot be changed

Schizophrenic mask of comfort

Too frail to protect from truth

Not-too-well hidden rancor

Negative feelings, covered up

Unconscious frustration calls

Happiness, always too short

Holocaust of hidden instincts

They're still crawling underneath

And when they'll come back again

They'll be at least twice as strong

Happiness, misery

Alternate cyclically

Everyday life so bittersweet

Self-fulfillment incomplete
