Trivia

I like to call this "the impossible song", 'cause it's impossible to play all at once! Lots of early Necrodeath influence here, though filtered through ultra-complicated, brainy riff patterns and arrangements, yet still raw, extreme and nihilistic as only old school underground metal can be.

The lyrics expose the illusions of soul, free will, spiritualism and other pathetic human velleities, and advocate for hedonism and sensualism ("sensism" in the lyrics - bad translation from italian *facepalm*) as the way to live without the need for that transcendental bullshit to give your life a weak semblance of meaning. A strong influence on these lyrics has been the work of Julien Offray de La Mettrie, an eighteenth-century french philosopher, writer of infamous books such as "L'homme machine", "Anti-Sénèque" and "L'art de jouir"; his materialistic/hedonistic positions were strongly rejected at the time but went on to influence cognitive science and behaviorist psychology. Basically, we're all just a bunch of Pavlov dogs and we should accept that.

Lyrics

Spiritualists want you to think

Mind and body are separate

Science shows us this is bullshit

The mind's just another part of the body

Don't fall for this fucking scam

A soul? There's no such thing

Just chemical reactions in our brains

That create what we call "conscience"

People think their brain activity

Is something important in the order of things

But the natural phenomenon we call "life"

Is just a casual accident

Teleology, anthropocentrism

The pretense of being special

Idealism, finalism

The illusion of having some purpose

Spiritualists want you to think

We do have free will

But in the end our body works

Just like an organic machine

Inner pulsions and stimuli

Are what motivates us

No single action is performed

Without these basic factors

People think they can elude

Their inner state of being

But what determines your behavior

Is your inner chemistry

Materialism, mechanicism

The cure for pretentious velleity

Hedonism, sensism

Recipe for a life without transcendence

The enlightened La Mettrie

Showed us the way

Causing controversy among his circle

Telling the obvious no one wanted to admit

But from which people now search in vain a way out

The pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain

These are our main motivators

Honor, pride, ethics, just means to those ends

Coercion, reward, Pavlov's dog, social compromise

No absolute morals, no absolute truths

Everything is relative and conventional

And when social conventions become obsolete they must

Be revised not to become obstacles for well-being

Fuck your spirituality, kiddo

Your thoughts so idealistic and naive

They can be reduced to your needs and pulses, they tell you who you truly are

You can't hide from your own opportunistic animal nature

No spiritual method can save you

Nothing that attempts to transcend your carnality

This ascetical bullshit will only frustrate you

Mind and body, just the same

So if you're in a bad mental state

Psychology, psychiatry

Is where to really seek help
