Jump into the void (nihilistic leap of anti-faith)

Appears on:

Written in august 2017, lyrics partially reworked during autumn 2019.

Trivia

The final song I wrote for "Sonic degeneracy": after delving into the deepest, most unstable corners of the human psyche in Vol. 2, this song re-emerges from the depths and ties the whole album together, with the reaffirmation of the nihilistic themes from Vol. 1 in a slightly recontextualized form. It's a very energetic, powerful song that encapsulates most of Rotgod's different facets and styles, from thrash to hardcore to noise, and contains an awesome solo courtesy of Jan from death metal band Spasticus. I hope it's an appropriate sendoff for this long, insane journey of an album.

P.S. The spoken bits in the middle section were lifted from two videos from popular YouTube channel "The Amazing Atheist", specifically "Nihilistic optimism" and "But religion gives people comfort!". Amazing stuff, indeed.

Lyrics

Acceptance of the intolerable

The lack of objective meaning

The thing in itself, a miserable scam

Veil of Maya's been torn AND THERE'S NOTHING BEHIND

The idea, just result of perception

No power outside our nervous system

No new age ideals, maybe no ideals at all

No values, nothing, I SEE NOTHING HERE

Abandon hope

And your pretense of significance

You need to take some courage

AND JUMP INTO THE VOID

Will you resign to meaninglessness

While still being able to live to the fullest?

Will you accept the death of big narratives

That gave you the illusion of some sort of purpose

Don't hide yourself behind apathy

To mask a need you still have to get rid of

You just need the courage to face reality

Even without firm points or absolute truths

It's time to say yes to a life without order
